Selby Gardens' Orchid Show 2021

The Orchid Show: Aerialists from the Tree Top to the Big Top! was the title for the annual orchid show exhibition in 2021. It was created in partnership with the Ringling Museum and drew parallels to the aerial habits of epiphytic orchids and aerialists from the Ringling circus. The conservatory greenhouse featured displays of circus-themed orchids, while in the museum, vintage posters on loan from the Ringling’s collection were on view.

Besides the exhibition branding, I incorporated elements of some of these posters into the museum. Men flying about on trapeze seemed to juggle wall-mounted spirit collections while an elephant trunk balanced dried and mounted scientific orchid specimens. In the main atrium, a trio of female aerialists were printed life size on foam core and cut to form and suspended from the ceiling beneath parasols.

The branding was used on t-shirts and sold in the gardens’ gift shop.
