Roy Lichtenstein exhibition guide

The 2021 spring art exhibition at Selby Gardens, Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes POP!, was a challenge in that a famous pop artist created his take on a famous impressionist artist. As is often the case, a combination of rights issues and having to create exhibition branding long before the show opens presents a dilemma to the creative lead. The result is his take on an artist’s take on another artist’s work. And lots of Ben-Day dots, the element that made Lichtenstein’s work immediately recognizable.

A whimsical approach was taken, the bright colors and cartoony treatment of many elements, including the curator’s portrait, made it appealing to all ages.
